“How can I help you?” asked Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?”
She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
2 Kings 4:2
In this dialogue between the Prophet Elisha and the Shunnamite woman, The Prophet gave her a chance to make her request known to God. He then asks, “What do you have in your house?”And the woman responded, “A jar of oil.”
What is that thing that you have in your house that can save you in your day of trouble? What talent has God placed in you that can open mighty doors into the nations? What is that treasure hiding under your pillow or bed that can raise you a fortune?
We are sometimes very quick to respond negatively in desperate times. You may find yourself in a moment of distress and forget that you possess something valuable. The “jar of oil” that the destitute woman had, was not merely a jar of oil but the answer to her problem.
The Lord may have placed a passion within you that will turn your life around. Your jar of oil could be your talent, your university course, your child, your dream/vision/goal, etc.
I pray for you today, that the Lord will open the eyes of your understanding, that you may see people of value, items of value all around you. May the Lord give you what it takes to turn your situation around in Jesus’ name, Amen.
